Welcome!

I'm Judy Cai

I'm a journalist with a passion for multimedia storytelling. I'm studying Print and Digital Journalism and Political Economy at the University of Southern California, where I create content for USC Annenberg Media and the Daily Trojan. I am interested in both hard news coverage and long-form reporting, and I hope to build a career in business and financial news.

I credit my diverse upbringing for stirring an interest in journalism. Born in China, I lived in the U.S. and Singapore briefly. I enjoyed living in different environments and experiencing new cultures. I began my education at an international school in Singapore; having no knowledge of English, my parents encouraged me to practice reading and writing a little everyday. This habit turned into a hobby: writing soon became my preferred outlet for self-expression.

When I was 8 years old, my family moved to and settled in Hong Kong. There, against a backdrop of bustling commercial activity, I became interested in economics. I started taking economics classes, but also continued developing my writing skills by working for a school magazine and the yearbook. I knew I wanted to pursue a career that would combine writing with economics; I wanted to write about economics news in a way that the general public would find relevant and interesting. I applied to the journalism program at USC because I believe it will give me the skills required to become a successful reporter in the digital age.

For now, I'm focused on producing quality stories for her school's media outlets, and applying for internships at business news organizations. I look forward to becoming a journalist because I enjoy learning about new and complex issues everyday, as well as meeting and interviewing different people. I am most excited for the day when my name gets published alongside an article for a major news organization.
